Reminiscences
 I can remember my first glimpse of a Willys Jeep in Cornwall, UK, back in 1968. It was love at first sight. The MB was being driven by 2 enthusiasts, Geoff Theobald and Tony Foster, both of whom I have long since lost contact with. They were towing another Willys, which they had just purchased from a local owner, and were heading back to their base in Exeter. It was not long afterwards that I purchased my own Ford GPW and eventually a Willys MB, which I still have and use whenever I can.
Back in the 70’s you just did not know what gold dust the Jeep was to become. I can remember paying just 12 British Pounds for a Jeep, and clinching another purchase of 3 Jeeps for 150 Pounds for the lot. Those were the days. There was so much to learn too; Like how to clean out a wheel cylinder using a toothbrush and Vim, or how to get a guaranteed fast start with 12 volts through a 6 volt starter motor. In those days, as a student, the Jeep was my transport, my business and my friend. I cannot forget that.
Since those beginnings, and a career in the Royal Air Force, I have learnt so much more about military vehicles in general, that I am now in a position to return some of that knowledge to the enthusiast. So began 121 Military Vehicles, with the object of providing a comprehensive, honest service to the military vehicle collector. [ Keith ] |
